The Batam Free Trade Zone Management Agency (BP FTZ) touted a
number of infrastructure projects to 24 ambassadors to Indonesia
visiting Batam in Riau Islands province on Saturday.
One of the
projects being offered is a 25-kilometer toll road linking Batu Ampar
Port, Hang Nadim Airport and Muka Kuning industrial estate on the
island. The management agency assured that the project would not be
hindered by land acquisition problems as in other regions across
Indonesia.
The visiting ambassadors were expected to convey
information about the investment opportunities to investors from their
countries.
BP FTZ chairman Mustofa Wijaya said: “We’ve conducted a
feasibility study for the project, which is badly needed to help speed
up transportation from the seaport and airport to the industrial centers
in Batam.”
Mustofa hoped that the project could be completed by 2017.
The
Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s director general of information and
public diplomacy, Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir, said that the diplomatic
tour was intended to inform the ambassadors of the potentials in regions
throughout Indonesia.
“The ambassadors need up-to-date information on the potentials in the regions, not only in Jakarta,” said Abdurrahman.
